Men’s Soccer in the USA
Each year, thousands of student-athletes compete across a wide range of colleges, with opportunities available at different levels depending on ability, academics, and ambition.
For UK players, this presents an alternative route — one that allows you to continue developing as a footballer while earning a recognised degree and experiencing life in the United States.

What opportunities are available?
There are over 1,000 universities across the USA that offer men’s soccer programmes, ranging from highly competitive Division I teams to smaller colleges where athletes can still train and compete at a strong level.
Opportunities vary depending on your ability and profile, but can include:
Competing in structured leagues with regular fixtures
Daily training in professional-standard facilities
Access to strength & conditioning and sports science support
Playing in front of crowds and travelling across the country
There is a level for almost every committed player — from academy-level athletes to strong grassroots and semi-professional players.
What does a scholarship include?
A soccer scholarship is financial support awarded by a university in return for representing the college team. Scholarships can vary significantly depending on the programme and the athlete.
They may include:
Tuition fee coverage (partial or full)
Accommodation and meals
Access to training facilities and coaching staff
Academic support services
Equipment and kit
Most scholarships are a combination of athletic and academic funding, meaning your grades can play an important role in the overall package.
NCAA vs NAIA
College soccer in the USA is primarily governed by two organisations: the NCAA and the NAIA.
NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association)
The NCAA is the largest and most competitive college sports organisation in the United States. It is divided into three divisions:
Division I – Highest level, most competitive, largest schools
Division II – Competitive level with a balance of sport and academics
Division III – Focus on academics with competitive sport (no athletic scholarships, but academic funding available)
NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)
The NAIA is slightly smaller but still highly competitive, often offering more flexibility in recruitment and scholarships. Many international athletes find excellent opportunities within NAIA programmes.
Both pathways offer strong football and academic opportunities — the right fit depends on the individual player.
Level of Play
How good do you need to be?
You don’t need to be a professional or academy player to earn a scholarship. Opportunities exist across a range of levels, and the right college will depend on your current ability, experience, and potential.
We work with players who are:
Currently in academies
Playing at semi-professional level
Strong grassroots players with ambition and commitment
The key is finding the right level and environment for you to develop.

What is life like as a college soccer player?
Being a student-athlete in the USA is a full-time commitment, combining training, matches, and academic study.
A typical week may include:
Daily training sessions

Weekly matches and travel
University classes and study
Beyond football, athletes experience:
